Al-Khanbashi Emphasizes Importance of Training Healthcare Personnel, Enhancing Epidemiological Readiness in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Mukalla / Newsroom: Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramawt, Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, reviewed on Saturday the final stage activities of the 7th Basic Field Epidemiology Training Program, conducted by the National Institute of Public Health with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pandemic Fund. The Hadramawt Local Authority stated that the training, part of the Public Health Empowerment Program, ran for three months from July to October 2026. It aimed to strengthen the capabilities of healthcare personnel in epidemiological surveillance, health incident investigation, and emergency response. Al-Khanbashi listened to a briefing from Fadi Wabran, representative of the National Institute of Public Health, and Khalil Fouad Bamatraf, head of the WHO office in Hadramawt, regarding the program’s objectives, training phases, and practical knowledge and skills provided to enhance the capabilities of health sector workers. Al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of specialized training programs in qualifying health workers capable of early detection of epidemics, monitoring outbreak hotspots, and addressing them according to scientific and professional standards. He stressed the necessity of continued investment in human capacity building and developing health response and surveillance systems, thereby contributing to community protection and reinforcing health security in the governorate. At the conclusion of the meeting, program organizers honored Al-Khanbashi in appreciation of his sponsorship of the training session and his support for the National Institute of Public Health’s efforts to train health personnel and develop the health sector’s capabilities in Hadramawt.
