Taiz University Suspends Classes at Al-Turbah Branch Following Houthi Abductions of Students
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom: Taiz University decided to temporarily suspend classes and examinations at its branch in Al-Turbah city, southwest of the governorate, following incidents of student abductions carried out by the Houthi group inside the university campus, amid growing concerns over deteriorating security conditions after the armed group took control of the city. In a statement issued Saturday, the university said its council approved the suspension of classes and exams across all faculties and centers at the Al-Turbah branch until further notice, on the back of the student abductions by the Houthi group and the subsequent sharp decline in regular academic activity. The university noted that student attendance dropped to 23 percent, prompting the decision to protect the safety of students and faculty members and to ensure a secure environment for completing the educational process and conducting examinations. The university clarified that the suspension does not apply to administrative operations, which will continue as usual at the branch. This move comes amid ongoing security and military tensions in Taiz Governorate, which continues to witness clashes between government forces and the Houthi group, which controls parts of the governorate.
