Al-Khanbashi Launches Measles Vaccination Campaign Targeting Over 179,000 Children in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom: Local authorities in Hadramawt Governorate launched on Saturday a national immunization campaign against measles and rubella, targeting approximately 180,000 children in the coast, valley, and desert districts. The Media Office of the Governor of Hadramawt stated in a release that Salem Al-Khanbashi, member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of the governorate, launched the campaign in the city of Mukalla, which will run from November 7 to 12. The statement explained that the campaign targets children from the age of six months up to under five years, accounting for 102,567 children in the coastal districts of Hadramawt and 77,373 children in the valley and desert districts. It added that the campaign comes as part of a national program targeting approximately 957,000 children across 100 districts distributed over ten Yemeni governorates, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi). Al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of families cooperating with the campaign by vaccinating their children and collaborating with fixed and mobile health teams deployed across health facilities, residential gatherings, and kindergartens, stressing the necessity of reaching all targeted children without exception. For his part, Director General of the Public Health and Population Office in Coastal Hadramawt, Ahmed bin Nuwaiser, stated that the office completed technical and field preparations to execute the campaign, including equipping health centers and mobile teams, training personnel, and providing operational supplies. Bin Nuwaiser called on local authorities, service entities, community leaders, and the media to contribute to the campaign’s success, enhance awareness of the importance of immunization, and encourage families to vaccinate their children.
