Yemen Monitor / Newsroom: Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, met on Sunday with the British Minister of State for the Middle East, Stephen Doughty, to discuss ongoing arrangements for an international donor conference for Yemen and the escalating threats posed by the Houthi movement. The meeting covered Houthi military escalation, intensifying battles in Taiz and Lahj, the siege imposed on civilians, attacks on infrastructure, support for the Yemeni government, and the threat the group poses to maritime navigation as well as regional and international security. Both sides addressed preparations for the international conference to support Yemen, scheduled for the end of this month, and efforts to ensure its maximum success in strengthening responses to the country’s economic and humanitarian needs. Al-Alimi expressed high appreciation for Britain’s supportive stance toward the Yemeni people and its pivotal role as the penholder on Yemen at the UN Security Council. For his part, the British Minister reaffirmed his country’s firm position alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership, announcing an increase in financial support to address the consequences of the humanitarian crisis.
