Yemen Monitor | Newsroom: The Taiz Human Rights Center said it had documented the killing and wounding of 38 civilians, including children and women, in Houthi landmine explosions and attacks on residential neighbourhoods in Taiz province over the past 48 hours. In a statement issued late Monday, the center said Sunday and Monday, November 1 and 2, 2026, witnessed an escalation in artillery and missile attacks targeting residential areas and public markets, alongside sniper attacks and the planting of landmines by the Houthis. The attacks left 10 civilians dead, including three children and two women, and 28 others wounded, including 10 children and three women, according to documentation by the center’s field monitoring team. The statement said the monitoring team documented the killing on Sunday, November 1, of eight-year-old Layan Shaif Ali Abdu and her mother, Hayat Qaid Ali Mohammed, 35, while four other civilians, including three women, were wounded in Houthi artillery shelling of residential neighbourhoods, including the Old Airport area in Al-Mudhaffar district, west of Taiz city. The wounded included Hanan Shaif Ali Abdu, the sister of the deceased girl, Najat Mohammed Ali al-Sanani, 40, Tahani Abdulraqeeb Jassar Mahyoub, 26, and 17-year-old Abdullah Abdulraqeeb Ahmed Mohammed. They sustained varying injuries from artillery shrapnel. On Monday, November 2, the center documented the deaths of eight civilians, including two children, and injuries to 24 others, including nine children, in separate Houthi attacks on residential areas across several districts of Taiz province. The deadliest of these attacks was a massacre in Al-Mukhaf village near the Al-Aqroud area in Al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz, where a missile fired by the Houthis struck a popular market, killing seven civilians, including two children, and wounding 19 others, including four children. The statement also said the center had documented the death of Fahd Hazaa Qasim, 55, who was injured during Houthi shelling of Dabbah village in the Al-Aqroud area of Al-Misrakh district. It added that two children, Majed Badr Hazaa, aged two, and 10-year-old Abdu Rashid Qasim, were wounded by gunfire from a Houthi sniper positioned on Dhuhaih Hill in the Al-Aqroud area. The first child was shot in his right thigh, while the second sustained an injury to his right leg. The monitoring team also documented injuries to three-year-old Mohammed Abdulhalim Mohammed, who was struck by shrapnel from an artillery shell fired by the Houthis in Mashra’a wa Hadnan district, south of Taiz. The statement further reported that nine-year-old Mohammed Abdulwali Ahmed Maghlas and his 11-year-old sister, Rania Abdulwali Ahmed Maghlas, were injured when a landmine planted by the Houthis exploded in Al-Makbasha village in Qadas area of Al-Mawaset district while they were grazing sheep. The center stressed that the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian objects by Houthi fighters constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes. It warned that the continued violations, in the absence of accountability, were deepening the suffering of victims and their families. It held the Houthi group responsible for the attacks and violations documented by its monitoring team. The center renewed its call on the United Nations, the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent and effective action to protect civilians in Taiz, establish independent and transparent investigative mechanisms into crimes and violations committed against them, and provide immediate medical and humanitarian assistance to the victims and their families.
