Yemen Monitor / Newsroom: The Health Office in Taiz, southwestern Yemen, revealed that approximately 347,000 children have been deprived of immunization against measles and rubella, and 72,500 children have missed routine vaccines, due to the siege imposed on the city by the Houthi group. The government office expressed its deep concern over the grave health and humanitarian consequences resulting from the continuation of the war and the unjust siege imposed by the group on the city, noting that this situation has paralyzed immunization programs and poses a direct, imminent threat to the lives of thousands of children. In a statement on Saturday, it explained that the disruption of routine vaccine supplies has placed nearly 72,500 children under the age of one at risk of being denied essential vaccinations, leaving them vulnerable to severe health complications and preventable deaths. It warned of grave repercussions that undermine health security, hamper efforts to protect children’s lives, and threaten the collapse of hard-won health gains achieved over recent years. The Health Office condemned in the strongest terms the continuation of the siege and the resulting deprivation of basic health services and life-saving vaccines from civilians, particularly children. It demanded an immediate and urgent lift of the siege imposed on the city to ensure the safe and sustainable flow of medical supplies and vaccines to the governorate. It emphasized that saving children begins with lifting the siege, ensuring the delivery of vaccines, and resuming immunization programs without delay, affirming that children’s right to life and healthcare will not be forfeited by siege or by silence.
